In July 2025, Virgin Atlantic announced plans to introduce Starlink Wi-Fi, coinciding with the refurbishment of passenger cabins on its Boeing 787 fleet. Recently, the airline decided to expedite the launch of this Wi-Fi service, which is fantastic news for travelers.

Free Starlink Wi-Fi for Flying Club Members

Virgin Atlantic has signed an agreement with SpaceX to bring Starlink Wi-Fi to its entire fleet. The exciting news is that this service will be offered for free to all members of the Flying Club loyalty program, which anyone can join at no cost. Users will be able to connect multiple devices such as laptops, tablets, and smartphones.

Starlink is renowned for its high-speed internet and low latency. This service will be available from the moment you board until you land, allowing passengers to livestream, work efficiently just like on the ground, play games, shop online, and much more.

Aircraft to Feature the Service

Virgin Atlantic plans to equip all its Airbus A330neo, A350, and Boeing 787 aircraft with Starlink Wi-Fi. The only exception will be the Airbus A330ceo, which will not receive this service as they are scheduled for retirement in the coming years.

Growing Market

Starlink is becoming increasingly popular in the aviation industry. We’ve seen several airlines, including Aer Lingus, airBaltic, Air France, Air New Zealand, and British Airways, announce plans to install this service. The installation process is also quick once the aircraft has been certified.

Virgin Atlantic’s Customer Director, Juha Jaervinen, stated, “We are the first airline in the UK to announce free Starlink Wi-Fi for our entire fleet. Starting in May, we will begin offering this service to our customers. As the rollout progresses quickly, we expect to complete Starlink connectivity across our fleet by 2027, all in an effort to create an exceptional connected experience.”

Comparing Current Wi-Fi Services

Currently, Virgin Atlantic offers Viasat Wi-Fi on some aircraft, but this service is not free. In contrast, Starlink is not only faster but also completely free for passengers.

Accelerated Rollout Timeline

While Virgin Atlantic is the first airline in the UK to announce the installation of Starlink, British Airways has quickly caught up and even rolled out the service before Virgin Atlantic. To keep pace, Virgin Atlantic has expedited its deployment schedule.

Initially, the installation was expected to begin in Q3 2026 and be completed by the end of 2027. However, with the latest plans, installation will begin sooner than anticipated. Starting in early May 2026, Virgin Atlantic will install Starlink Wi-Fi on its A350 aircraft, with all A350s expected to have the service before summer 2026.

Projected Completion Timeline

Starting in the latter half of 2026, all Boeing 787s will also be equipped with Starlink, with two-thirds of the fleet expected to have the service before the end of 2026. The remaining A330neo aircraft will receive Starlink in 2027, at which point the project will be complete. This is truly exciting as all A350s (and possibly some 787s) will have Starlink before the first Virgin Atlantic aircraft were originally scheduled to have this service.

A Positive Conclusion

Virgin Atlantic will roll out free Starlink Wi-Fi for Flying Club members, gradually installing the service starting in May 2026 and expected to complete by the end of 2027. All A350s will be equipped before the start of summer, all 787s before the end of 2026, and all A330neo will receive the service sometime in 2027.
