United Airlines has launched its first Airbus A321XLR, featuring numerous enhancements for a superior flying experience. Discover all the details about this aircraft and its upcoming flight schedule.
United Airlines and the Newest Airbus A321XLR
In December 2019, United Airlines placed an order for 50 Airbus A321XLRs, a new variant of the A321 designed for long distances and fuel efficiency. This aircraft is set to enter commercial service by the end of 2024. Recently, United took delivery of its first A321XLR, designated N64321, which is currently en route from Hamburg (XFW) to Tampa (TPA) for the installation of the Starlink system before it officially begins operations.
Flight Schedule Insights
While specific flight schedules for this new aircraft have not yet been announced, it is expected that United will primarily deploy the A321XLR for transatlantic flights and routes to Latin America. Potential routes include Newark (EWR) to Bogota (BOG) and Edinburgh (EDI). Notably, United plans not only to replace its Boeing 757-200s but also to expand into markets that were previously unfeasible.
Seating Layout and New Amenities
All United Airbus A321XLRs will feature a total of 150 seats, including 20 Polaris business class seats, 12 Premium Plus seats (high-end business class), and 82 economy seats. The aircraft will have one restroom at the front for business class passengers and three restrooms at the rear for economy and Premium Plus, along with a small snack bar.
The Polaris business class will be equipped with new herringbone seats, which face the aisle rather than the window. While this layout saves space, it may not be the most comfortable option. Each seat offers privacy and can convert into a bed measuring 75 to 78 inches long.
Premium Experience
The Premium Plus section will provide a pleasant experience with a 2-2 seating arrangement, although the restroom situation may not be ideal. Nonetheless, this is likely to be one of the best premium experiences available on a U.S. airline, comparable to domestic first class.

Economy Space
The economy section will feature a 3-3 layout, with the highlight being a snack bar located at the back. This will offer passengers additional choices throughout the flight. Furthermore, the Starlink Wi-Fi system will be available as soon as the aircraft begins operations, allowing MileagePlus members to connect easily and quickly.
Useful Information for Vietnamese Travelers
With this development from United Airlines, flights to Europe and Latin America from Vietnam have become even more convenient. Currently, you can fly to New York, Los Angeles, or Miami from Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City for approximately 15-25 million VND, depending on the time and airline. When traveling to specific United Airlines destinations, it's essential to be aware of visa requirements and the flight duration, which is around 18-20 hours, not including layover time.
Europe and Latin America are becoming increasingly attractive and exciting destinations for Vietnamese travelers. Stay updated to ensure you don't miss out on the best fares and the new services offered on these modern aircraft.
Conclusion
United Airlines has just launched its first Airbus A321XLR, promising to significantly enhance the international flying experience. While it may not provide the spacious feel of wide-body aircraft, the A321XLR boasts considerable improvements over its predecessors. Keep an eye on United Airlines for updates on new routes in the near future.
