The United Club Card offers valuable benefits for those who frequently fly with United Airlines, but the annual fee may give you pause before signing up.
United Club Card: Review and Evaluation
I recently had the chance to explore the United Club Card, and I must say it’s a fantastic option for those who regularly fly with United Airlines. The annual fee of $695 might seem steep, but if you're a loyal fan of this airline, it starts to make more sense. However, if you don’t fly United at least a few times a year, I recommend weighing your options carefully before making a decision.
Pros and Cons of the United Club Card
This card comes with a host of attractive benefits. Firstly, you gain free access to United Club lounges, and you can bring a guest along with you, plus any dependents under 21. Still, the $695 price tag is something to consider if you don’t often visit these lounges.
Some standout advantages of the card include:
- Free United Club membership
- Bonus miles for transactions with United
- Two free checked bags for you and a companion
On the downside, the high annual fee and its unsuitability for infrequent United flyers are important points to note. Additionally, some of the credits may be challenging to fully utilize.
Exciting Welcome Offer
New applicants can take advantage of a welcome offer that includes up to 110,000 MileagePlus bonus miles and 3,000 PQPs. By spending $5,000 in the first three months of account opening, you can earn 100,000 bonus miles. Plus, if you add an authorized user within the first three months, you can receive an additional 10,000 miles.

Based on a current mile value of about 1.35 cents, these miles could be worth up to $1,485. However, keep in mind that you can only qualify for this welcome offer once every 24 months.
Benefits of the United Club Card
The United Club Card not only grants you United Club membership but also various other perks like travel protection and account credits to help offset the high annual fee. One of the highlights is that United Club membership gives you access to over 45 lounges worldwide, making your travels significantly more comfortable.
Moreover, the card covers application fee reimbursements up to $120 for Global Entry, TSA PreCheck, or Nexus every four years – perfect if you haven't signed up yet.
Additional Credits
Cardholders will also receive some exciting credits each year, such as:
- Up to $200 for hotel bookings at select hotels for United cardholders.
- Up to $150 for taxi expenses charged to the card, distributed as monthly credits.
- Up to $100 in TravelBank cash for car rentals from Avis and Budget through cars.united.com.
- Up to $240 for Instacart transactions charged to the card.
Platinum Elite Status with IHG
As a United Club cardholder, you will automatically receive Platinum Elite status with IHG One Rewards. This grants you many perks, including free room upgrades and bonus points on your stays.
Other Privileges
The card also offers several flight-related benefits, such as two free checked bags for the cardholder and a companion, along with priority check-in and baggage handling. These perks are incredibly valuable whether you already have elite status with United or not.
Conclusion
In summary, the United Club Card is definitely worth considering if you frequently fly with United Airlines and want to enjoy premium amenities. If you don’t travel often, you might want to look for a more reasonable option. But if you decide to go for it, I’m quite sure you won’t regret the benefits this card offers.
