Thai Airways: A New Investment in Business Class

Thai Airways has long struggled with consistency in its fleet and product offerings. This challenge primarily stems from the airline's lack of a long-term strategy due to ongoing financial issues. However, in recent years, the airline has embarked on a recovery plan and has started to make notable improvements.

The airline is investing in a more uniform fleet for the future, with plans to introduce a new business class product across most of its wide-body aircraft. This initiative is set to be officially implemented starting in mid-2027.

Comprehensive Changes in the Cabin

Currently, the airline only offers first class on three Boeing 777-300ER aircraft. The majority of the fleet consists of business and economy classes, but there is no premium business class available.

Starting from mid-2027, Thai Airways will upgrade its Boeing 777-300ER fleet with new interiors. The airline is also ordering several Boeing 787-9 and 787-10 aircraft, which are scheduled for delivery in 2027, ensuring a consistent passenger experience. By 2028, upgrades to the Airbus A350-900 fleet will also take place.

The New Business Class Concept

The upcoming plan will completely phase out first class, replacing it with a “premium business” concept. All of these aircraft will feature a new business class product along with a premium business offering in the front row, increasing the number of seats in the 777 from nine to ten.

Thai Airways' new business class will include reverse herringbone seats facing the aisle, and a premium business product in the first row. The airline has chosen the VantageNOVA seat platform from Thompson Aero for this new business class.

Distinctive Cabin Design

Thai Airways is known for its unique cabin finishes, so it will be interesting to see how they adapt this new product. While the VantageNOVA product has not yet been adopted by any other airline, it is expected to debut on Delta's Airbus A350-1000 aircraft in 2027.
