This month, travelers from countries like the US, Canada, the UK, France, Australia, and New Zealand expressed that they felt supported and cared for, forming deep connections with the people they met. This illustrates what can happen in countries that are still waiting to reopen.

Take, for example, Om Mohammad, a family business owner in Petra, who has regularly welcomed groups into her home to share traditional Jordanian meals. Without tourists, she says, "everything has become uncomfortably quiet." Like many others, she relies on tourism to support her family and provide education and healthcare for her children.

I am from Palestine but have lived and worked in Jordan for many years. Jordan is a place of generosity and warmth. Coping with ongoing conflicts in neighboring countries has never been easy, but we are resilient—we have to be. There is still hope, even in uncertain times.
