When people think of this area, delicious eateries often come to mind. Recently, I delved into the world of Lucky Wantan Mee, a beloved wantan noodle spot located at Blk 40 Beo Crescent.

The Journey to Find Lucky Wantan Mee

About two years ago, a friend who lives in the area introduced me to Lucky Wantan Mee. Unfortunately, I couldn’t find the place due to my poor navigation skills. Today, as an intern at Sethlui.com, I decided to give it another shot, this time with my parents by my side. With their guidance, we finally located the shop I had missed two years ago, conveniently situated next to Beo Crescent Market. So, if you plan to visit, keep an eye out for it!

Opening Hours

Upon arriving at Lucky Wantan Mee, the friendly auntie shared the shop's opening hours with me. The restaurant operates from 6 AM to 12:30 PM from Saturday to Thursday and is closed on Fridays. This is an important detail to keep in mind if you’re planning a visit.

Menu and Pricing

Lucky Wantan Mee has a limited menu featuring just four main dishes: Wantan Noodles (S$4.50), Dumpling Noodles (S$5), Chicken Feet Noodles (S$5), and Dumpling Soup (S$5). This time, I opted for the dry wantan noodles and the dumpling noodles. A fun fact: the shop only accepts cash, so make sure to bring some along!

Culinary Experience

When the dishes arrived, they didn’t look particularly appetizing— the vegetables were unevenly cooked, and the noodles appeared a bit dry. But as I mixed everything together, I discovered the hidden sauce at the bottom! The sauce is milder compared to others but is perfect for those who prefer a subtler flavor. If you want to enhance the taste, add a bit of green chili—the sweet and sour combination will elevate the noodles significantly!

Wantans and Dumplings Review

The slices of char siu were thin and slightly sweet. Although we were a bit disappointed with the wantans due to their sparse filling, the dough was very smooth. On a positive note, the wantans here aren’t overly peppery, which suits our taste. The dumplings received higher praise, with a rich filling that didn’t have that dry texture of the wantans.

Soup and Conclusion

The soup at the shop is light and comforting, perfect for warming up. The dry noodles had a smooth texture, while the soup noodles were even softer! It was truly a delightful experience that I hadn’t encountered before.

The great thing is that the shop is close to Tiong Bahru MRT station (EW17). Just exit via Exit B and walk for about 5 minutes. If you’re not great with directions like I am, remember that Blk 40 is right next to Beo Crescent Market. Once you reach this block, finding the shop will be a breeze!

Should You Try Lucky Wantan Mee?

Personally, I think there are tastier wantan noodle places out there, but everyone has different preferences. The friend who recommended this place loves the wantan noodles here, and there are plenty of positive reviews on Google. However, there are also some negative feedback, so you might want to experience it for yourself and form your own opinion.
