Discover essential items for a perfect beach day at Jersey Shore, along with helpful tips for Vietnamese travelers.

Memories from Jersey Shore

Every summer, I find myself at Jersey Shore, a place that holds some of my fondest childhood memories. I can still vividly recall my mother preparing snacks and sunscreen for my siblings and me. Nowadays, whenever I get the chance, I rush back to beautiful beaches like Belmar or Sea Bright in New Jersey.

To truly enjoy a day at the beach, you need more than just sunscreen and a towel; there are several other essentials to consider. Drawing on my experience as a travel editor and my visits to world-renowned beaches, I've compiled a list of must-have items for a perfect beach picnic.

Essential Beach Gear

Beach Chair

No beach day is complete without a chair. Lightweight and portable options like the GCI Beach Chair or the Business & Pleasure Co. Margaritaville provide maximum comfort. They fold up easily, allowing you to soak up the sun without the bulk.

Beach Umbrella

A beach umbrella not only offers shade but also protects you from harsh sunlight. The compact Versa-Brella is a fantastic choice for easy transport. If you're with family, consider a larger option like the CoolCabana 5 to accommodate everyone.

Beach Towel

Even if your resort provides towels, it’s wise to bring your own. Quick-drying and soft towels like Mark & Graham and Elite Trend are perfect for drying off after a swim.

Cooler

A cooler from Yeti or RTIC will keep your drinks and snacks refreshingly cold. They have just the right capacity for a small beach picnic without being too cumbersome to carry.

Beach Blanket

When you want to relax or have a picnic, a beach blanket is a must-have. Look for ones that roll up easily to avoid getting sand in your food.

Beach Fashion

Light and Breezy Attire

Opt for comfortable, lightweight clothing like linen tops to stay cool at the beach. Avoid tight-fitting clothes that can become uncomfortable over a long day. A breezy linen dress or comfortable shorts are excellent choices.

Swimwear

Swimwear is essential, so choose suits that flatter your body. Brands like Miraclesuit and Left on Friday offer a variety of stylish and comfortable options.

Light Jacket

For after your swim, a light jacket or sarong is perfect. They can easily be packed away and keep you comfortable.

Comfortable Footwear

Sandals and Waterproof Shoes

Having a pair of sandals that you can easily slip off when walking on the sand is crucial. Styles from Birkenstock or Tkees provide comfort while walking. If you plan to explore rocky areas or tidal pools, waterproof shoes will be a lifesaver for your feet.

Helpful Tips for Vietnamese Travelers

If you're planning a trip to Jersey Shore, the best time to visit is between June and August when the weather is warm and the beach is beautiful. You won’t need a visa for a short visit to the U.S., but ensure your passport is valid for at least six months.

A day at the Jersey beach can cost between 500,000 to 1,000,000 VND, depending on whether you rent chairs, umbrellas, or dine out. A meal at a beachfront restaurant can set you back around 300,000 VND.

To reach Jersey Shore, you can fly from Ho Chi Minh City or Hanoi to New York, then drive (about 1.5 hours) or take a bus to the beach.

With these tips in hand, I hope you have a fantastic beach day at Jersey Shore!
