Discover the challenges of making money through blogging and new strategies to optimize revenue.

Welcome to the World of Blogging

Having been involved in blogging for over 18 years, I've witnessed the internet evolve dramatically during this time. My passion for writing has allowed me to 'work' 365 days a year without ever feeling like it’s a chore. However, my blog is also a business—something I never considered when I first started it.

Changes in the Blogging Landscape

The online world has transformed significantly. For instance, AI-generated content now accounts for more than half of all online material. This means that content creators like me are competing against a massive volume of content that can be produced without the time investment it once required.

Search behavior on Google has also shifted dramatically. Instead of guiding users to specific articles, Google often provides succinct answers directly on the search results page. This has led to a significant drop in search traffic for many blogs, including travel blogs.

The Harsh Reality of Online Business

Today, making money online is more challenging than ever. Traditional advertising models are under pressure, and many websites have shifted to an e-magazine format or pay-per-click advertising, often disregarding content quality. This trend has resulted in several travel blogs being sold to larger media companies, focusing more on revenue than profitability.

New Monetization Strategies

To maximize revenue, many bloggers have transitioned to subscription models or platforms like Patreon, where fans can financially support their favorite content. However, this isn’t feasible for everyone, as not all readers are willing to pay for content they can easily find for free.

Personal Insights

Recently, I've had fascinating conversations with others in the content industry. A friend of mine who operates on YouTube shared how he monetizes through product reviews. This made me reflect on the current content market and the differences with travel blogging—where contrasting opinions and criticism from readers are common.

Facing Reality

While I greatly value reader feedback, it’s clear that as things become more commercialized, many feel compelled to demand transparency. For me, this indicates that the shift in how people consume content must align with a clear vision and goals from the creators.

Looking Ahead

It’s certain that if I simply revert to my old ways, my revenue will diminish year by year. However, change isn’t always easy. I am still searching for ways to optimize my content without losing the essence and spirit of my blog.

Throughout this journey, I’ve realized that staying true to my philosophy while maintaining relationships with readers and creating genuine value should be my top priorities. Despite the challenges, I remain optimistic about the future of blogging and what it can offer.

Useful Information for Vietnamese Bloggers

For those looking to learn how to monetize a blog, start by creating quality content, identifying your target audience, and leveraging social media channels to promote your work. Remember, SEO and search optimization are crucial for increasing traffic and ad revenue.

Don’t forget that in Vietnam, the blogging community is rapidly growing with many new opportunities, especially as more consumers seek information online. Stay persistent and don’t hesitate to experiment with different strategies to find what works best for you.
