Discovering Free Delicious Treats from an Elderly Couple at No Name Dessert
Who doesn’t love tasty food that won’t break the bank? If you’re in Siglap, you absolutely must check out No Name Dessert, one of the most budget-friendly dessert spots I’ve ever encountered. In a time when prices are skyrocketing, many of our favorite desserts are becoming more expensive, yet this gem maintains its affordable pricing—like their Chendol Durian, which is just 4 SGD!
Upon my first visit to No Name Dessert, I was pleasantly surprised by the cozy ambiance of the place. Tucked away beneath an HDB apartment complex and not close to any shopping malls, I almost missed this hidden treasure. The menu is straightforward, featuring items like chendol, jelly, cocktails, and hot desserts, making it easy for anyone unsure of what to order.
Cheng Tng: The Star Dish Here
The most beloved dish at No Name Dessert has to be Cheng Tng (priced at 2.20 SGD), which once made the place famous under its old name, No Name Cheng Tng. Honestly, I didn’t expect this little spot to be so renowned for its Cheng Tng, yet it has been voted one of the best desserts in Singapore by several magazines.
Unfortunately, the seating area has been taken away, which was a bit disappointing. But no worries! There are plenty of nearby seats under the HDB block, perfect for enjoying fresh desserts. The atmosphere here is calm, a refreshing contrast to the hustle and bustle found elsewhere in Singapore.
Indulging in Delicacies at No Name Dessert
I couldn’t resist trying the famous Cheng Tng, and I also ordered a Chendol with corn (priced at 3.50 SGD). It’s worth noting that the basic version of Chendol (3 SGD) includes only the essentials like red beans, green rice flour jelly, and coconut milk. If you’re a fan of toppings like corn, jelly, or even durian, they have you covered!

The ingredients in the Cheng Tng were impressive, boasting all eight classic components such as longan and sweet potato. I didn’t have high expectations, but to my delight, there were quite a few delicious elements that satisfied my taste buds. My wallet and stomach were both rejoicing. Special shoutout to the perfect preparation of all the ingredients, from the chewy sago to the delightful snow jelly.
Exploring Flavors in Chendol
What I loved most was the broth in this dish, which provided a truly comforting experience. From the very first sip, I could tell it was made entirely from natural ingredients with an authentic herbal flavor. This will surely please the older generation as it’s not overly sweet.
To enjoy the Chendol, you’ll want to stir it well to blend all the ingredients together. I even snapped a photo to capture the beauty of the different colors in this chilled dessert before I “destroyed” it. Personally, I prefer my Chendol a bit colder, so the combination of shaved ice and ice cubes here was a fantastic solution. The finely shaved ice melted in my mouth, instantly bringing me joy.
Overall Impressions of No Name Dessert
The combination of corn mingling with the other ingredients created a visually delightful mix—crunchy corn, chewy green jelly, and soft red beans. I also appreciated the harmonious sweetness of all three ingredients, something I, as a sweet-tooth, truly value.
While I’ve praised this dish a lot, I must admit that the Chendol can feel a bit rich after a few spoonfuls due to the heavy amount of coconut milk. This overpowered the flavor of the gula melaka, making the dessert feel somewhat monotonous. However, that might just be my personal preference, as I tend to enjoy desserts with a more pronounced sweetness.
No Name Dessert is a surprising steal, offering incredibly cheap desserts without compromising on quality. I’m definitely coming back to try more items, especially their hot desserts (which are considered their bestsellers). Where else can you find such cozy desserts at these prices?
