Explore Ashhryshoshedap in Johor Bahru, renowned for its Salted Egg Spaghetti and Belacan Fried Rice. Is this a culinary gem worth trying?
Overview of Ashhryshoshedap
Ashhryshoshedap has long been on the list of must-try dining spots in Johor Bahru, thanks to glowing reviews from food enthusiasts like Jason Chen, a popular food blogger known for his honest critiques. If you haven't heard of Jason, you're missing out on a delightful side of Malaysia's food scene.
The name Ashhryshoshedap initially threw me off. Pronouncing it in front of friends felt a bit awkward, but that didn’t matter much. My main goal in Johor Bahru was to indulge in delicious food.
Ambiance & Important Information
Contrary to my initial expectations, Ashhryshoshedap is quite spacious, featuring an upstairs dining area for those needing more room. A little tip: you’ll need to take off your shoes upon entering, so avoid wearing any torn socks!
Signature Menu
Upon entering, you’ll need to scan a QR code to view the menu. However, finding your desired dish can be a bit tricky due to the quirky categorization and names. We spent a while deciding what to order because there were so many intriguing options.
The standout dish we tried was the Salted Egg Spaghetti (RM29.90), officially named Spaghetti Salted Egg Clam Creamy Bismillah Yummy (Sweet Creamy & Spicy). Although it’s on the pricier side, the portion was incredibly generous, nearly taking up our entire table. As soon as the dish arrived, the distinctive aroma of salted egg and curry leaves wafted through the air — a truly delightful experience.

The spaghetti was cooked just right, though it had a slight resemblance to the texture of the Prego brand, giving it a somewhat chewy feel. The sauce was very flavorful, reminiscent of the cheesy-salty-spicy taste of Super Ring snacks. While it was undeniably tasty, it might work better as a dipping sauce than a pasta sauce.
Other Dishes
We also tried the Belacan Fried Rice (RM29.90), humorously titled Nasgor Mantan TAK Move On! The dish was beautifully presented with vibrant red prawns and fresh cherry tomatoes. It was truly excellent, featuring soft rice, well-balanced spices, and a hint of heat that made it quite enjoyable.
However, I found the belacan flavor to be a bit mild, possibly because they used sambal belacan instead of pure belacan. Surprisingly, the amount of squid in the dish was abundant and fresh, but I wished there had been a side of sambal belacan to enhance the flavor further.
Conclusion
In summary, Ashhryshoshedap may not be the ideal spot for those with sensitive palates due to its bold flavors. However, for food lovers like me, it was a fantastic experience. Even though I’m not a fan of Salted Egg Spaghetti, the Belacan Fried Rice definitely won my taste buds over. If you plan to visit, remember not to order one dish per person unless you’re really hungry.
