JetBlue has introduced BlueFirst, a new domestic first-class service with several enhancements. This article reviews the amenities, dining options, and compares it to Breeze Ascent.

Introducing JetBlue's BlueFirst

JetBlue has just unveiled BlueFirst, its new domestic first-class offering. While it may not redefine air travel like JetBlue's Mint business class, the features of BlueFirst are certainly worth considering.

With comfortable seating, modern technology, complimentary Wi-Fi, and food that exceeds average standards, BlueFirst is undoubtedly a superior choice compared to current offerings.

Seat Design and Amenities

BlueFirst will feature a 2-2 seating arrangement, allowing for a generous 37 inches of legroom and a recline of up to 5 inches. The seats are manufactured by Collins Aerospace, and JetBlue has partnered with Tuft & Needle to enhance comfort by adding T&N Flex foam.

Each seat will come equipped with a 13.3-inch entertainment screen, Bluetooth connectivity, USB-A and USB-C charging ports, as well as 110V power outlets. High-speed Fly-Fi will be complimentary for passengers.

On overnight flights, passengers will receive blankets and sleep kits. Depending on the aircraft type, BlueFirst will have three to four rows of seats, totaling between 12 to 16 seats across various aircraft.

Culinary Offerings

The most debated aspect of BlueFirst is its dining service. JetBlue announced that it will not install ovens on its planes, meaning passengers shouldn’t expect a traditional hot meal. Instead, flights longer than 899 miles will serve a FirstFare meal presented in a bento box, which includes a main dish, side, and dessert.

Sample dishes include sweet or savory crepes and sesame noodles with beef or tofu. For flights under 899 miles, additional snacks will be available. While there has been criticism regarding the cold meals and boxed service, I believe that if the food is fresh and well-prepared, it can still provide a pleasant experience.

High-Quality Beverages

JetBlue has teamed up with Parcelle to offer wine selected by a sommelier, Cometeer and Joe Coffee for coffee, and Smith Teamaker for tea. Beverages will be served in high-quality Fable glassware along with uniquely designed coasters.

Passengers can also use the seat screens to select their drinks, allowing for the creation of custom cocktails, which could add a fun twist to the flight experience.

Comparison with Breeze Ascent

Interestingly, BlueFirst shares similarities with Breeze Ascent, the airline operated by David Neeleman, founder of JetBlue. Breeze features a 2-2 seating layout with about 39 inches of legroom, but also does not offer hot meals. Compared to Breeze, JetBlue boasts advantages like a better entertainment system, free Wi-Fi, and a superior drink selection.

Cost and Customer Service

While BlueFirst is a new product, it raises questions about the service for passengers seated behind. JetBlue has built a reputation for more legroom in economy class, but with the introduction of BlueFirst, the seat pitch has been reduced from 32 inches to 30 inches, which is a setback for many travelers.

Conclusion

BlueFirst may not be a revolutionary product. The familiar seating, less generous space, and lack of ovens could challenge the perception that this boxed dining experience is premium. However, I believe that the initial feedback may be a bit hasty. Let’s wait and see how it unfolds.
