It's funny how sometimes you just hear about a place and its fantastic service and delicious food, and you decide to take the plunge. That’s exactly what happened when I chose to bring my family to Grand Velas Riviera Maya. Often, luxury resorts claim to be child-friendly, but the reality can be quite different, especially when you’re managing tired and hungry little ones. However, within just an hour of arriving, I realized this place was genuinely different.

The resort is spacious but not overwhelming. The paths wind gently through the lush greenery, and the warm, pleasant air creates a relaxed atmosphere. Everything here feels slow and easy-going. And the service? Absolutely outstanding! But is it worth the price? Let’s find out!

Location and Getting to Grand Velas

Grand Velas is conveniently located near Playa del Carmen, just about an hour's drive from Cancun and Tulum. The sea here is calm, and there are plenty of attractions nearby, including cenotes, Xcaret, and snorkeling spots. You can even arrange a private car through the resort, which is super convenient.

Family Amenities at Grand Velas

Upon entering our room, I was delighted to find a cute little tent set up for my child. If you have young kids, everything you might need is already taken care of - from cribs and bottle warmers to bath essentials. This hotel truly understands how to cater to families.

The pools serve as the heart of fun here. There are several pools, each with its own unique character. The kids loved the specially designed play areas. I was thrilled to see my child excited about the array of water toys that the staff brought over. The kids’ and teens’ club is spacious and packed with engaging activities. Thanks to the babysitting service available until 11 PM, my husband and I were able to enjoy a peaceful dinner together.

Culinary Delights at Grand Velas

Dining is a key part of any resort experience. The Michelin-starred Cocina de Autor offers a tasting menu that is truly unforgettable. While I don’t drink, my husband raved about the wine pairing service here.

For more relaxed evenings, you might want to check out Friday or Lucca. The menus are diverse, and the service is top-notch. What I loved the most was being able to order room service, indulge in the buffet at Azul, or sip smoothies by the pool without a care in the world.

Accommodations and Service Experience

The accommodations are divided into three areas: Ambassador suites (family-friendly), Grand Class (adults only), and Zen, nestled in the jungle. We stayed in an ocean-view Ambassador suite, which was spacious and tranquil.

The service here is continuous and attentive. The staff genuinely cares about the guest experience. You can even reach out to support staff via WhatsApp at any time, which is incredibly convenient.

Relaxation at the Spa

The spa at Grand Velas feels like a world of its own. The water rituals are a highlight, featuring warm pools, cold plunge pools, steam rooms, and gentle water flows that help you unwind and find inner peace. The private setting allows you to relax even with other guests around.

After a treatment, both body and mind feel rejuvenated. It’s truly a perfect blend of relaxation and restoration.

Grand Velas Riviera Maya has shown me that you don’t have to choose between luxury and the joy of your little ones. This place radiates warmth and encourages families to fully enjoy their time together!
