The incident involving Ryan Walker at the Amanvari resort has garnered significant attention after his last-minute room cancellation and police involvement, highlighting critical issues within the hospitality industry.
Introduction to the Amanvari Incident
Recently, a noteworthy story emerged involving Ryan Walker, a well-known hotel reviewer, who had booked a stay at Amanvari—a newly opened luxury resort in Mexico with rates soaring up to $6,000 per night. Unfortunately, just one night before his arrival, Ryan received a cancellation notice and found himself in an awkward situation at the hotel entrance when security called the police on him.
Given the circumstances, this could be one of the worst customer service incidents I've ever witnessed at a luxury hotel. The manner in which this hotel handled the situation left me utterly baffled.
Poor Handling of a Bad Situation
The hotel justified their actions by claiming they were limiting the number of guests due to their recent opening. However, this was clearly untrue, as they continued accepting bookings for that very night after canceling Ryan's reservation. It was evident that the management did not feel prepared for scrutiny, despite having reached out to Ryan to set up filming arrangements.
If the management felt unprepared, rather than complicating matters for Ryan, they should have seized the opportunity to make amends, such as offering him a complimentary night in the future or booking him at a nearby Four Seasons. That would have been a professional way to resolve the situation.
What Happened Next?
Ryan asserted that he did not see the prior cancellation email due to the volume of emails he receives. This raises questions about whether he was even aware of the cancellation upon arriving at the hotel. One thing is clear: calling the police on a customer is simply unacceptable. Ryan was treated like a criminal without any justified reason.

Aman Needs to Respond
Since the incident, Aman has remained silent. I reached out to their communications department but have yet to receive a response. In this situation, their silence only damages the brand, as customers need to see that the company is investigating and taking concrete steps to rectify the issue.
Aman has also begun restricting comments on their social media platforms. The executive director of Amanvari has removed his LinkedIn account, sparking speculation that he may have been fired. However, we need clear statements from the company to understand the truth.
Community Feedback
On Google Reviews, numerous customers have left negative feedback for Amanvari. Additionally, some have posted mixed reviews, further complicating the situation. This indicates that the community is highly concerned about how this hotel handles adverse situations.
In this context, some opinions suggest that hotels have the right to refuse service; however, if you are spending $6,000 for a night’s stay, you should not be denied at the last minute like that.
Conclusion
In summary, the incident involving Ryan Walker at the Amanvari resort in Mexico has sparked considerable controversy. The last-minute cancellation, coupled with the hotel's poor handling of the situation, has severely impacted their reputation. Aman’s prolonged silence will only worsen the situation.
This not only affects Aman’s image but also serves as a lesson for other brands on crisis management and enhancing customer service quality. Every customer deserves to be treated fairly and with respect, regardless of who they are.
