Join me as I recount my memorable journey to Ambergris Caye, Belize, filled with exciting experiences and valuable lessons on managing rewards points and travel expenses.

Meet the Author

Hello everyone! I’m from Texas, and today I want to share an exciting story about my approach to rewards points and travel. I had a journey full of surprises that helped me better understand how to optimize my credit card rewards and travel experiences.

Starting the Journey

Before diving into the affiliate marketing space, I worked in the legal field but soon realized that the courtroom wasn’t my calling. That’s when I joined Red Ventures, where I got the chance to work in credit card marketing. Here, I had wonderful experiences, from managing partner networks to writing content about credit cards and their benefits.

Thanks to these experiences, I became a travel enthusiast focused on maximizing rewards—my first credit card was opened through One Mile at a Time, launching me into a world of exploration.

A Memorable Trip to Ambergris Caye

Recently, I traveled to Ambergris Caye to celebrate a friend's birthday. I flew to Miami to meet Ben, but unfortunately, he had to leave in a hurry. The flight from Miami to Belize City cost $256, and I opted to pay in cash because the rewards for that flight weren’t worth it.

The flight from Belize City to Ambergris Caye was fantastic, though I had to spend an additional $125 on Tropic Air. However, it was absolutely worth it for the stunning views along the way. I didn’t choose my accommodations, but I ended up at Alaia Belize, part of the Marriott Autograph Collection, which offered fantastic amenities and services.

Smart Rewards Management

While booking, I optimized my rewards points effectively. The total cost for six nights at Alaia was $3,668.35 or 300,000 Bonvoy points. However, thanks to promotions and rewards, I only needed to pay about $1,379.03 in cash, using around 73,000 leftover UR points from previous rewards. This was a great way to save on my trip while enjoying premium services.

Fun Experiences and Unexpected Incidents

Upon my return, I faced a luggage mishap. I had bought a new suitcase from Away and sent it with a friend, but it unfortunately didn’t arrive on time. This led to a scramble to deal with lost luggage at the airport. Tropic Air's system organizes luggage based on weight and space, which can sometimes delay your bags.

After two hours of searching, we still had to check in for our flight. This was a valuable lesson in luggage management and being prepared for the unexpected. While luggage may not be the most important aspect, the experiences throughout the journey are what we truly cherish.

Useful Information for Vietnamese Travelers

If you're planning a trip to Ambergris Caye, remember that you may need a visa to enter Belize. If flying from Vietnam, check flights from Noi Bai International Airport (HAN) or Tan Son Nhat (SGN) to Miami, a common transit city. The cost for a flight from Vietnam to Belize typically ranges from 20-30 million VND, depending on the timing and service provider.

Additionally, the best time to visit Belize is usually from December to April when the weather is cooler and drier. Be sure to plan for outdoor activities like diving or exploring the local eco-parks.

Conclusion

This trip not only provided exciting experiences but also highlighted the importance of managing rewards points and travel costs. I hope my story inspires you for your future travels—always be prepared and seize every opportunity to explore the world around you.
