• When passengers are eligible for compensation, airlines will be required to send them a link to the compensation claim form within 48 hours after the scheduled arrival time.
• Airlines will need to provide reasons for the disruption, including specifying any extraordinary circumstances if they wish to deny compensation.
• After passengers submit a compensation request, airlines will have 30 days to process the payment or provide a reason for denial.

Reactions from Airlines

Many passengers are likely to be pleased with these changes, while airlines may not share the same sentiment. The Association of European Airlines has released a report claiming that these changes will increase the cost of EC261 compensation from 8.1 billion euros to over 15 billion euros annually.
